Some of our most frequently asked questions.

Will you pressure wash my roof?

No! Definitely not. So much can go wrong very quickly with high pressure water. Whilst it is possible to do, we would strongly advise that this process is left to a well-established company, trained to a high level in health and safety procedures, that don’t walk on your roof and, most importantly, have very good insurance in place. If someone offers you this service then please ensure they tick all the above boxes or it could end up costing you an awful lot of money for that clean roof!

Do you clean roofs?

Yes, we do. The process involves the scraping of the roof using attachments specific to the profile of your tile. The roof can then be soft washed or a biocidal treatment is applied which neutralises existing growth and slows down regrowth. This work is carried out from gutter level and will require the use of our tower scaffolding or powered access equipment. We do not walk on your roof. Other methods include the use of low pressure water or steam.

What is to stop me buying a pressure washer and doing it myself?

Nothing. The simple Karcher machines available for around £80 will give you a very basic clean but, ask yourself, will it give as good a result as a set up costing approximately £3,500 – it won’t. They do have their uses but have a limited life span – give mediocre results and you will have to take the time to do the work yourself. Our equipment is capable of doing in an hour what would take one of those machines eight.

Do you use your own water?

To a limited degree yes, we can, but only on small jobs. The van mounted tank holds a thousand litres which is adequate for most jobs. However, that amount of water literally weighs a ton. In order to operate well within the safe laden weight of the vehicle the tank is never filled over 300 litres. The pump delivers water at a rate of 21 litres per minute which will only provide an actual working time of ten minutes. For this reason, we need to use your water supply – but don’t panic, it’s not as expensive as you may think. At current published prices, South West Water charge £1.91 for 1000 litres.

Do you use your own electricity?

The main cleaning unit and had tools are petrol driven so no electricity is needed. For gutter clearing and roof cleans our commercial vacuum would require a standard 240 volt supply.

I live in a terraced house with no rear access – can you still clean my patio?

Yes, we can. This may require the hose(s) to be taken through your house which will require you to sign a disclaimer in case of water damage due to unforeseen mechanical failure. The use of a portable cleaner and soft washing may be a better alternative.

Will you guarantee to remove all marks and stains?

No. Old oil stains are notoriously difficult to remove. We will do the very best we can and will advise you at every stage and no work will be carried out without prior agreement. We would rather under promise but over deliver.

Will your pressure washer damage the pointing in my paving?

No, but it will remove failed pointing. Whilst every care will be taken to minimise this, the process relies on high pressure to clean. If the majority of the pointing is loose, soft washing may be a better option.

Do you use polymeric sand to re sand block paving?

No. Polymeric is fine to use on new block paving when the gap depth of the paving is known to be uniform. Use of this product with unknown depths can result in early failure and the sand ‘peeling’ away in shards.

Do you seal drives and patios?

Yes we do. Sealing a new patio or driveway is highly recommended as it protects the surface from most forms of penetrating growth and staining. This is a wise defence of your investment. However, some companies use sealing as an ‘up sell’ to increase their profits. It is often not required and, if done badly, can result in costly remedial work. We will seal if this is what you require but, in most cases, we would recommend an ongoing maintenance program that will keep your surfaces looking better for longer and at a much-reduced cost.

Do you use weed killer?

No. We would need to acquire the qualification in the safe use of pesticides – PA1 & PA6 to be able to use weed killers. Although desirable, the demand for this service is low and the total cost for this training is approximately £800. This cost would have to be phased onto the customer, resulting in a very costly process. We would encourage you to apply your own weed killer, however, if a full service is required, we use a fully certified contractor to perform this task.

Do you guarantee that the weeds, lichen and moss will not come back?

No. This is out of our hands and depends on numerous factors such as overhanging vegetation, the aspect of the area and ongoing weather conditions. We do provide a treatment that will slow the return of organic matter.

Do you offer an ongoing maintenance service?

Yes we do and we highly recommend this. On completion of the work we will always provide advice that will help you keep the job looking better for longer. We also offer an ongoing maintenance service that provides treatments that enhance and slow down regrowth.

How much do you charge?

It is not possible to accurately quote without seeing the job in question. All quotes are free of charge and come with no obligation to commit to the work. All quotes are valid for two weeks from the time of the offer unless otherwise stated. We have no minimum size for cleaning but we do have a minimum charge of £45. This would be for a basic wash of a concrete drive or hardstanding that would take two cars. It assumes a moderately dirty drive that is free from weed infestation and is clear from ornaments and flowerpots etc. Block driveways require more cleaning and re-sanding which attract material and labour costs.

What are your payment terms?

We require payment on completion of the works unless otherwise agreed. Unfortunately, we do not accept cheques but are happy to take cash and all major debit and credit cards through our chosen payment partner iZettle. Bank transfer is also available.
